Share price of Standard Motor Products Inc. (SMP - Free Report) increased 4.1% to $43.39 on Aug 3 after the company reported a significant 49.2% improvement in adjusted earnings per share to 88 cents in the second quarter of 2016 from 59 cents earned in the prior-year quarter. Earnings also exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 74 cents. Adjusted earnings from continuing operations increased to $20.2 million from $13.6 million in the year-ago quarter.

Revenues at the Temperature Control segment fell 1.8% to $87.5 million. The segment recorded an operating profit of $6.3 million (7.2% of sales), up from $3.2 million (3.6% of sales) in second-quarter 2015.
Revenues at the All Other segment decreased to $2.6 million from $3.3 million a year ago. The segment recorded an operating loss of $4.6 million, wider than an operating loss of $4 million in the second quarter of 2015.

Standard Motor had cash balance of $12.4 million as of Jun 30, 2016, compared with $18.8 million as of Dec 31, 2015. Long-term debt of the company was $186,000 as of Jun 30, 2016, compared with $78,000 as of Dec 31, 2015.
